The importance of others in nurturing an infant
We know that if a new mother is isolated and has no support network of family, or friends, deep trouble can occur. There is a great possibility that she will suffer depression. A baby that is cared for by a depressed mother actually has negative changes occur in its brain development.

A supportive, and involved father, grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbours and friends living in a community that values and supports mothering is of the utmost importance to the baby.
