A woman needs quite and privacy

The belief that birth works

Labour does more to the birthing woman than "shift her focus". It demands her attention and focus, so that the uterus can do its work. If she is distracted by not being in a place where she feels comfortable, or by lots of noisy things around her, or strangers coming in and out, or people talking, labour can slow down and take longer. She needs quite and privacy as well as at least one person with her all the time who loves her and keeps telling her what a great job she is doing!

All that most women need in order to do this is the belief that birth works and will work for them. But this seems to be difficult to do in today's world. Many of us seem to want everything we do to be managed by highly technical equipment and experts
